ASPEN GROVE XC SKI AREA & ECOTOURSWe have a new nordic skiing venue and "Eco-tour" opportunity in one of Michigan's best snow belts near East Jordan! Aspen Grove XC Center is in the Jordan Valley, easy access: > 3 miles south of East Jordan MI > Right on M66 at Kidder Rd. Situated on a glacial moraine overlooking the Jordan River Valley, this is a fine opportunity to experience a variety of experiences, too. Aspen Grove XC Center offers a variety of terrain from flat and rolling fields to upland deciduous hardwoods and conifers forests, there will be up to 10 KM variety of trails groomed and maintained for both skating and classical skiing, including some classic only and snowshoe trails. Nordic director, Lou Awodey, spent 22 winters at Boyne Mountain's Nordican, and has moved on to start this new center. Multiple offerings are available: skiing or snow shoeing on your own, rentals of gears, lessons, even guided eco-tours. Consider coupling your winter visit with a guided, safe, incredibly memorable winter raft trip down the Jordan River! We have about 7-10 km of nordic trails available this winter; call 231-620-5679(cell) for information or snow conditions. Our base facilities and building are located at the junction of M66 and Kidder Rd. Trail passes, equipment rentals and repair, lessons, retail items, and refreshments are available at the XC Center base center. LOVELY SNOW CONDITIONS AT ASPEN GROVE XC AREA!!...Monday March 8, 2010 GREAT SKI CONDITIONS!! Aspen Grove XC Center, East Jordan, MI (231-620-5679) Good snow conditions yet for XC skiing in Northern Michigan, but thinning fast! "Spring skiing" is HERE: good early as crispiness softens (excellent, fast skate skiing!), slower and soft midday, then fast again in late afternoon and in the woods. Great morning "Crust Cruising" should be coming on as well, OFF TRAILS. Timing is everything. Mid morning ski conditions are excellent as snow thaws. Getting very soft by afternoon and melting away. Get out and MAKE TRACK! Still enough snow on all trails, but bare spots will start growing. ENJOY!!!! Plenty of snow in the woods for snowshoeing and back country treks; off piste snow conditions are nearly perfect! Consider a winter raft trip on the Jordan in combination with you ski experience. PLENTY OF SNOW YET = JORDAN RIVER VALLEYWinter is HERE in Northern Michigan!! Snow regularly covers the ground well from late November and on into late March!! Midwinter skiing can be exhilarating, but springtime is even better! The sun is often out daily and outdoor activities can be VERY COMFORTABLE and totally EXCITING, unlike during harsh, cold conditions of the dead of winter.... Consider a buffet Ecotourism offering of outdoor experiences in the Jordan River Valley (Northwestern Lower Michigan) including amazing guided winter raft trips, peaceful guided nature tours on XC skis or snowshoes, skiing beautifully groomed XC ski trails, explore a Maple Sugar Bush and rustic syrup making operation, you can even couple it with a rustic dinner offering while or after rafting down the river, skiing, snowshoing, or even a sleigh or hay ride! Special events and presentations are scheduled each Saturday and Sunday all month. Gear can be rented onsite; just dress appropriately. A: Trails will be tuned up, widened, flattened, etc. for the new season. Some trails will be lengthen with at least one, longer, touring trail added of perhaps 10 KM total length start to finish. One new closer in "technical trail" will be added offering a fun but challenging 3-4 KM loop in close proximity to the starting/trail head area, with various options to suit each skiers tastes and desires and time restraints. Trails will also have new name signs posted at various junctions with some "You Are Here" maps posted as well to help with orientation. A: Yes, we will still offer trails for skate skiing (wider), classic (including some old fashioned "classic only" narrower trails in some beautiful settings.), and snowshoe trails. Q: What is available at your base facilities, and is there a physical address for them? A: At the base facilities one can pay trail fees (fee tube available if building is closed), obtain trail passes (daily), rental equipment (skis and snowshoes), lessons, and light refreshments. Some offerings may only be available on weekends, so call ahead to check on availability midweek. Trail maps with information flyers are also available at the trail head base. We are located 3 miles south of East Jordan on M-66 at the Kidder Rd. intersection, exactly. Q: What are the fees this year? Are there different packages available? A: Fees for 2008/2009 will be basically the same as last winter: � Daily Trail Fee: $10 Season Pass: $100 Weekly: $45 � Rental skis or snowshoe packages: $15 Daily; $25 for the weekend; $45 for up to 5 days. � Private ski lessons are available on request and price according to needs, including beginner packages. � Special rates are available for special groups, school groups, tailored outings and groups, guided tours, etc. Just inquire first. ** We may also have a combo package available for both skiing/snowshoing/ and winter rafting down the Jordan River!
